A new March, Strathspey & Reel competition was instituted at this year’s Argyllshire Gathering, one of the most prestigious piping competitions in the world. The competition was for young pipers aged 22 or under who had competed in the MacGregor Memorial Piobaireachd competition on the first day of the Gathering. Previously there was no competition in ceol beag (light music) for these pipers on day two at the Oban games.
The winner of the inaugural P/M Robert G Hardie Memorial Trophy was young Calum Ian Brown from Aberdeen, with what the judges called a very mature presentation from a promising piper.
Congratulations Calum! Here’s to many more future piping successes.
